For the eleventh time, Schweizer Illustrierte hosted the “Swiss Car of the Year” election. In two categories, they put new models of the coming year up for election. A 14-member jury of experts selects the “Swiss Car of the Year 2022,” while readers of Schweizer Illustrierte and its partners are asked to vote for the “Favorite Car in Switzerland.”
At the big testing day in October at the TCS Betzholz testing and training grounds in Hinwil (ZH), the jury was able to closely assess each of the 15 finalist vehicles and then award their points. Which model won the race was announced on December 8 – due to the Corona pandemic not at the traditional awards gala, but as a pre-produced show format.
Live Lab filmed three voting calls with VIPs for the readership, produced a trailer (embed video) and various clips for the event. At the testing day on the race track, a special camera crane for cars and drones was brought into play for this purpose.
One week before the planned awards show, the physical event was cancelled and changed to a film format, the cinematic realization of which Live Lab spontaneously took over under the project lead of Office 104. The award show was moved to the cozy attic of the original location, the Emil Frey Classics, and staged for filming in the new setting. The short planning and post-production period were no easy challenge, but thanks to the well-established project team, the project stayed on track and the winners were properly crowned.
