Ünschi - A movement for locally produced food in Davos
With the vision of strengthening biodiverse, fair and regional agriculture in Davos, the idea of the Ünschi movement was born together with Martin Hänggi from Bioladen Davos. The ‘Ünschi Härdöpfel’ (“our potatoes” in the local dialect) project was launched in 2019. After 70 years, potatoes are now being grown in the Davos mountains again. And this is just the beginning.
Renaissance of the potato
What was lost decades ago has been revitalised by Ünschi: potato cultivation in the Davos mountains. Thanks to the collaboration with the Seewiese organic farm, the staple food that once characterised the Davos diet is once again growing in the regional fields. The Härdöpfel are not only a return to the roots, but also a symbol of the success of regional cooperation.
Growing product range
Today, in addition to the raw product potato, there are also crisps made from ‘Ünschi Härdöpfeln’. Rösti are currently being developed to soon win the hearts of the regional culinary trade. The semi-finished product is to be produced without additives and bring tradition and local ingredients to the plates of local restaurants. ‘Ünsches Wasser’ (“our water”) is the latest product of the Ünschi movement. It comes from the crystal-clear springs of the Davos mountains and is bottled directly on site in high-quality bottles from the Swiss brand Fill-me. Instead of transporting mineral water over long distances, the bottles can be returned and refilled in Davos businesses.
Brand with character
Live Lab developed the Ünschi brand from concept to reality, documenting and telling its unique story. The team designed the logo, created a well-thought-out product design, developed an appropriate visual language and suitable texts for the website, thus giving the brand its unmistakable character. In addition, Live Lab networked with partners to establish Ünschi as a strong community initiative. However, the commitment went far beyond the creative work: the team itself lent a hand in planting and harvesting the potatoes – with hands full of soil and dedication.
Sustainable connections
With the support of committed partners and producers such as Next Generations, Richnerstutz, DavosWorks, Inos.swiss, Heierling and the Office of Economy and Tourism, the Ünschi movement is constantly evolving. It not only stands for sustainable agriculture, but also for the pride and innovative strength of an entire region. Ünschi is more than just a project – it is a promise to the future of Davos and a model of how tradition and sustainability can be successfully combined.
